A Contemporary Co-Op Renovation
Location – Upper West Side, Manhattan, New York

This renovation transformed two separate co-op units into a unified home designed for clients who are passionate readers and collectors of books. The project focused on creating additional space while maintaining a sense of warmth, order, and character throughout the apartment. By removing barriers between the public living areas, the layout now feels open, connected, and filled with natural light.

The redesigned interior includes a fully renovated kitchen and main bathroom, along with the addition of a flexible third bedroom that also functions as a home office. Custom millwork plays a central role in the design, with walls lined in built in bookshelves that provide both storage and architectural rhythm. These interventions support the clients’ daily routines while giving the apartment a calm and highly personal atmosphere.

Material selections balance refined contemporary elements with the existing texture and history of the space. Custom cabinetry finished in Farrow & Ball Railings pairs with Bertazzoni appliances and durable porcelain countertops to create a kitchen that feels both sophisticated and approachable. Throughout the apartment, preserved details such as the exposed brick wall introduce texture and patina that ground the renovation in the building’s original character.

Despite the extensive scope of work, the project was completed on a relatively modest budget. Careful planning and strategic design decisions allowed the renovation to achieve a high level of craftsmanship and visual impact without excess. The result is a vibrant and highly functional home that feels thoughtful, layered, and enduring.
