St. Johns Place II:
A Contemporary Co-Op Renovation
Location – Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, New York
Completed – 2024
This interior renovation reimagines a compact 650 square foot Brooklyn apartment for a young family with a newborn, transforming the home into a warm, functional, and highly personalized living space. The design reflects the clients’ passions for art, wine, cooking, and music while maximizing every inch of the apartment’s footprint.

The project involved a full renovation and reconfiguration of the layout, including the expansion of the kitchen and the relocation of the bedroom to improve circulation and create a stronger connection between the main living spaces. The redesigned kitchen now opens directly into the living and dining areas, allowing the family to stay connected while cooking, entertaining, or spending time together.

Material selections were chosen to create a tactile and inviting atmosphere with a refined sensibility. Custom cabinetry provides generous storage while maintaining a clean and cohesive aesthetic. A white zellige tile backsplash introduces texture and depth, complemented by durable soapstone countertops that add warmth and character to the space.

The clients, one of whom works for an art gallery and the other as a wine importer, brought a strong appreciation for design and craftsmanship to the collaboration. Their love of cooking and listening to records informed the open flow between the kitchen and living areas, creating a comfortable environment for gathering with friends and family. A central paper chandelier suspended above the dining table was designed to move with the table itself, adapting easily to different arrangements and occasions.
